REM Medical - Regain Life's Balance sleep woman

The Process

If you would like to be evaluated for your sleep condition, please consult with your primary care physician for a referral to REM Medical. If your insurance coverage allows, you may also be able to self refer to REM Medical.

Please call us at 480-991-0480 to schedule an appointment for a consultation with one of our sleep medicine physicians.

We will ask you to complete a questionnaire prior to your visit with the physician. We will ask you about your specific sleep challenges as well as some general health questions, which will help our physician make a diagnosis. Our goal is to find a customized solution that is going to work for you.

Evaluation

You will then come in for your visit with a REM physician, who will evaluate your condition and determine if you are a candidate for a sleep test at the REM Medical sleep testing facility. If a sleep test is indicated, our office staff will find a convenient time for your sleep test. If a sleep test is not indicated, the REM Medical physician will work with you to develop an appropriate, personalized treatment plan.

Sleep Diagnostic Testing

REM uses state-of-the-art diagnostic testing equipment and the latest medical advances to evaluate and treat all sleep conditions. When coming in for a sleep test, you will arrive at the sleep lab about one hour prior to your normal bedtime. You will receive more detailed information about this process before your visit, but it is typically an 8-10 hour stay in one of our comfortable, hotel-like bedrooms. Some patients may need special testing that requires a 20-24 hour stay. The technologist will spend some time setting up the evaluation and monitoring equipment that will be used to track your sleep patterns during the night. You will go to bed just as you would at home. When the sleep testing concludes, you will be ready to resume normal activities.

Follow-up

Following the sleep test, we will schedule a follow-up consultation with a REM physician who will discuss the findings of the sleep test. The physician will also work with you to recommend an appropriate treatment plan for your sleep condition. A few of the treatment plan options include a prescription for a special mask to help keep your airway open when you sleep (CPAP), a dental appliance to wear when you sleep, surgery (e.g. tonsillectomy), prescription drugs and others. Your physician will work with you to develop a personalized treatment plan, and ultimately a solution for your sleep condition.

Our goal is to provide you a better night’s sleep. Part of our process to track compliance and outcomes means that we may be contacting you from time to time to check in with you and to determine how your sleep solution is working for you. You are always welcome to contact us if your sleep conditions change or if the treatment plan needs further physician evaluation.
